DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has been working more towards being an action comedy than the other shows, and they’re doing a good job of it. “The Curse of the Earth Totem” continues that trend with another mash up kind of episode. Last time was Abba and Groundhog Day. Now, it’s a sort of romantic comedy and pirate adventure.
The Legends do a sot of dual homage to both 70’s supergroup Abba and the movie Groundhog Day in “Here I Go Again.”
Beginning their strange timesharing arrangement in Supergirl’s slot, the Legends of Tomorrow make their return from their long winter break. We got a hint when last we saw them about a special fan favorite guest star, and that gets follows up on this episode.
With the crossover finished, the Legends of Tomorrow get back to their usual business of trying to fix time. Personally, I’d like to see a side note at some point of them fixing some of the stuff Barry messed up with his time travel, but that’s me. Anyway, their other recurring issue this season is…
Part four of Crisis on Earth X jumps in exactly where part three ended, as Legends of Tomorrow finishes the team-up.
The Crisis on Earth X continues with part two, as Arrow shifts to another night for the fun. Part one ended with Prometheus held captive in the Pipeline, pulling his mask off.
The Legends keep running into people connected to them in the past: younger versions of themselves, ancestors, and, the just-won’t-stay-dead Damian Darhk. That trend continues in “Welcome to the Jungle,” which lands the team in 1967 Viet Nam, during the war. That was dangerous enough on its own, but you know that if the team goes there, it’s worse than it seems.
The title of this episode was making me curious from the first time I saw it. It ended up making a lot of sense, although not quite about what it sounded like.
All the CW/DC Comics shows tend to adjust their introductory voice-overs as needed. It’s a nice little touch I enjoy. This week’s is done by Rip Hunter, and, to me, it worked a bit better than a lot of the others have this season.
I’ll be one of the first to admit that Legends of Tomorrow is an uneven show. They do some weird stuff and have had their share of issues with some episodes. But they are a generally entertaining bunch of lunatics, and when they embrace that, you get a really entertaining episode.
