“King Shark” picks up moments after “Escape from Earth 2″ ends. Caitlin, mute, in shock, stares at the Speed Cannon where Zoom just grabbed (and probably killed) Jay as the others stand around, horrified. Barry wants to go back and help, but Wells says they can’t. All the Breaches have been closed, so there’s no way back. Mind you, Wells tends to be the pessimist of the group, but, for the moment, he’s apparently right.
If you’re going to do an action piece about a kidnapping, what else would you call it these days but “Taken”? We saw William, Oliver’s son, had been kidnapped by Damian Darhk, last episode. Well, nothing good is going to come of that, and a lot bad happens this episode. As I’ve said before, while Arrow has its faults, it is not afraid to change up the status quo.
The writers on Supergirl continue their tradition of borrowing phrases from Superman’s long history. “Truth, Justice and the American Way” was another part of his famous tv introduction back in the black and white era. The “American Way” now is possibly a bit more ominous phrase in some lights, as they demonstrate this week.
After the chaos of last episode, Agent Carter and friends now have to deal with “Monsters.” Whitney Frost, drawing on her acting skills, has a press conference about the death of her husband, and his “colleagues,” the Council members she killed with her Zero Matter powers. Carter and Frost glare at each other across the reporters before Frost retreats into “mourning.”
Last week, the “Legends” crew ended up in Cold War Russia. Things did not go well, and the team was divided both physically and by some of Rip’s decisions. This week, the Russian adventure concludes with a few surprises and twists along the way in “Fail-Safe.”
The team on Earth 2 is having problems. Fighting Zoom on his own ground is harder than they thought, and now they need to, “Escape from Earth 2.” Zoom himself is running around his version of Central City, leaving Wanted posters of Dr. Harrison Wells all over. Hewitt, Wells’ research assistant, is worried. Wells orders STAR Labs to be locked down and evacuated. Cisco manages to get back from Barry being captured. When Wells wonders why Cisco is still alive, Cisco comments, “He cares even less about me than you do.”
Things keep going strangely for Agent Carter in “The Atomic Job.” Wilkes, fortunately for him still in his intangible state, wakes her up, all excited to show her something he’s learned. He has a tissue sample from Jane Scott, the titular “Lady in the Lake” from the season premier, and Wilkes can pull the dark matter out of the sample, as well as make it do odd things. With this small piece, he manages to temporarily become solid again, as well as home in on Scott’s body.
The Legends of Tomorrow continue their quest through time in “White Knights.” This title could have several meanings. They say phrase several times throughout the episode. There was a movie in 1985 that had a similar setting. And one of the characters has a connection, in the comics at least, to an organization that used different color chess pieces as titles for their members.
It’s almost getting hard to keep track of all the different mini-factions and secrets on iZombie. This week’s episode is Physician, Heal Thy Selfie, the latest in a series of great titles. I suspect there are going to be a lot of big reveals, surprises, and disappointments as they work towards the season finale.
Arrow’s “Sins of the Father” changes up the status quo on several fronts, many of which surprised me. A few long running subplots come to an end and some relationships change. I suspect this episode will have a lot of repercussions, and is probably part of the ramp up to the season finale.
