Jessica Jones Episode 10: AKA 1,000 Cuts

“AKA 10,000 Cuts” is the tenth episode of Jessica Jones’ Netflix series, and it is one of the most tension-filled, violent, and hard on the cast shows they’ve done yet. A lot of things go badly here, and very little of it is Jessica’s fault, although I have no doubt she’ll blame herself. That’s what she does.

Jessica Jones: AKA Ladies’ Night

Jessica Jones is the next Netflix Marvel series. Her comic was called Alias, as is her small PI firm. Playing on the word Alias, each episode title starts with AKA, as in Also Known As, a term sometimes used for alias. I’m generally not wild about cute naming conventions for show titles. I get what they did here, but I’m not sure I see the need for the name trick.

Daredevil Episode 13: Daredevil

Season one of Daredevil ends with an episode named for the main character. “Daredevil” wraps up a lot of loose ends, and gives the cast of characters some measure of hope. From the beginning, Daredevil was supposed to return in “The Defenders,” and has also been confirmed for a second season with more Marvel characters appearing in it.

Daredevil: The Ones We Leave Behind

“The Ones We Leave Behind,” is a very tension-filled penultimate episode for Daredevil’s first season. There are a lot of developments and surprises that I did not see coming. As the rest of the series has been, it’s a wonderfully-well written, brutal instalment of the story.

Daredevil: Nelson V Murdock

The Daredevil story took a very unexpected twist at the end of episode nine. The tenth part has the somewhat ominous title of, “Nelson v. Murdock.” Foggy is very upset after learning Matt’s secret, and questions everything about their friendship. I think Elden Henson has been doing a great job as Foggy all along, but he really shines in these scenes with Matt.

Looking Ahead to Netflix Defender Series

With the launch of Daredevil, Netflix is moving in to a corner of the Marvel Universe. The series has gotten great reviews, and within two weeks of the thirteen episode season one being released, they’ve announced plans for season two. I have to admit I’m excited by this, as I’m loving the first season and the ties to the larger Marvel Universe. Daredevil has a 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which if nothing else is generally a good sign.
