Agents of SHEILD: Many Heads, One Tale
“Many Heads, One Tale” is an eventful episode for the Agents of SHIELD, current and former. Ward, continuing his revamp Hydra/destroy SHIELD crusade, has a meeting with Gideon Malick.

Things are getting ugly for the Agents of SHIELD in “Chaos Theory.” The show opens with a scene from about six months ago, with May and Andrew in Tahiti, a magical place… err, Hawaii. They seem happy, and talk about new beginnings. You just know that’s not going to last, especially given what we learned last week. They do show Andrew’s secret origin, for lack of a better term.
So what happened to Jemma Simmons during the months she was missing? We’ve seen hints in her reactions to being back, but we finally get to see the details in “4722 Hours.” With Agents of SHIELD being an ensemble cast, we don’t get a lot of focus time on any of them individually as a rule. This is the first episode I can think of that was almost all just one character, and actress Elizabeth Henstridge carries it off nicely.
“Devils You Know,” opens with a nice domestic scene of a couple making dinner. Gradually, they show that the man has powers, so, given the current storylines, he must be an Inhuman. The couple get two visitors in quick succession- Alicia, the “Ginger Ninja” from the SHIELD vs SHIELD battle last season, followed by Lash. As you can imagine, this doesn’t go well for anyone but Lash.
One of the things I give Agents of SHIELD credit for is amusing episode titles. A lot of this week’s show is about Lincoln being on the run, so they call it, “A Wanted (Inhu)Man.” They throw in a lot of twists and turns and some interesting character choices and subplots. The opening shows Lincoln…
Agents of SHIELD comes back for its new season with “Laws of Nature,” and it kicks off with a bang. The Terrigen contamination we saw last season is making itself known, and people are randomly finding their dormant Inhuman gene jumped into action. What quickly becomes apparent is that SHIELD isn’t the only group interested in these newly powered people.
The latest in a series of one-shots celebrating the 50th anniversary of SHIELD, The Cavalry features Agent Melinda May, one of the most popular characters from the Agents of SHIELD tv show. While other characters have problems reconciling their Marvel Comics and Cinematic Universe versions, May was created for the tv show, so she doesn’t have a long backstory to try and tiptoe around. She’s an amazing badass who is a lot of fun to watch, either onscreen or on the page.
The SHIELD comic has been mirroring the tv show to an extent, with greater or lesser success. Some of the issues have been great. Last month’s and this month’s, in my humble opinion, didn’t work as well. Trying to combine the tv and comic continuity is difficult, and sometimes nearly impossible. In this issue, Phil Coulson sends Melinda May and Mockingbird out after someone who is doing some horrific surgeries.
Agents of SHIELD ends its second season with a two hour special. They clear the decks for next season pretty thoroughly. I’ve commented about Avengers: Age of Ultron being a clash of idealism, Tony Stark’s and Steve Rogers’. There’s a lesser version of that here, with Gonzales’ mistrust of supers running smack into Jai’s paranoia about SHIELD. A lot of what happens here comes from echoes or ripples from those two opposing mindsets. Too bad more of them weren’t listening to Coulson.
Agents of SHIELD has a very action packed episode with “The Dirty Half Dozen.” It starts with Raina getting more of her visions, none of which look really good. She wakes up find Jai watching her sleep, which is kinda creepy, really. They argue some about Raina’s powers, and how they will be used. Then Jai and Cal have an argument that turns into more of a discussion. It does appear that Cal is making some progress towards controlling himself. Gordon teleports back with bad news about Lincoln.
