Luke Cage reaches the penultimate episode with “Soliloquy of Chaos,” which is one of their more poetic titles. Things start building up towards a major showdown for the finale, and they move the pieces around really well. They are setting up for what should be a really impressive last episode. They continue their trend of…

Constantine Returns!

After far too long, there’s some good news for Constantine fans. Many of us, myself definitely included, loved the show on NBC, which only lasted one season. Now the CW had announced an animated series on their “Seed” online network, much like the already extant Vixen. Matt Ryan was great on Constantine. After the cancellation, he did a single episode guest shot on Arrow, and then voiced the character in the Justice League Dark animated movie.

Sam Wilson, Captain America #17 review

The Sam Wilson book has not shied away from the complications and prejudices in modern America. In this issue, in addition to the prejudices against Sam Wilson being the new Cap, his sidekick, the new Falcon, is being accused of being an illegal immigrant. Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon, gets a recap of his origin and a lot of flack from a pundit named Ariella Conner.

The Unstoppable Wasp #1 review

Marvel has been developing a lot of new characters lately, many of them females carrying their own books. I’m glad to see it, and even more glad to be enjoying it. The new Wasp showed up a while ago in one of the Avengers books, and wandered around as a background character briefly. Now, she gets her own title in “The Unstoppable Wasp.”

Luke Cage 11: Now You’re Mine

Luke Cage episode 11, “Now You’re Mine,” picks up right where episode ten, “Take It Personal,” left off. The gunfight is raging at Harlem’s Paradise, and people are wisely running for their lives. Cage is crouched behind the bar, shielding Misty as best he can with his bulletproof body. Cage signs for Claire to stay where she is, out of harm’s (at least immediate) way, and Shades is out on the street looking surprised. I keep thinking of Shades as Wile E Coyote and his succession of bosses (Stokes, now Diamondback) as the ACME products: Shades has things under control until something blows up in his face. I almost feel bad for him.

Dr. Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio

Among the ways 2016 has sucked (and there have been so many), it was the year of no Doctor Who. I don’t know what’s going on over at BBC, but they essentially took a year off, at least as far as new episodes being released goes. Maybe they’re retooling after losing Clara, maybe they’re gearing up for the new Class show, another Dr. Who spin off.

Luke Cage 10: Take It Personal

Luke Cage 10, “Take It Personal.” is a bit shorter on action than some of the other episodes, but makes up for it with surprise reveals and plotting. You can see things building up for what will likely be the big final conflicts. For someone who showed up so late in the story, Stryker is becoming a very central player to the various plots.

Star Wars: Rogue One movie review

There are a few things you should know before you read this review. I am a huge Star Wars fan. I saw the original in the theaters, way back when, something like twenty times. I have an entire bookcase of just Star Wars novels. I’ve played several versions of the role playing games, and both Galaxies and Old Republic. I’m enjoying the current Marvel Comics series. So I was really excited about Rogue One.

Green Arrow #12 review

Green Arrow has been through a lot since Rebirth started. On the good side, he’s back with Black Canary, undoing one of the DCNU’s many unpopular moves in their war on relationships (yeah, I’m biased). On the bad, he’s lost his company, been framed or all sorts of crimes, nearly been killed several times, his sister turned on him, and his old and deadly enemy Shado turned up again. Oh, and media creep strikes again, and now he’s friends with a black man named Diggle who has a Special Forces background.

Legends of Tomorrow: The Chicago Way

Taking its turn in the winter finale line up, the Legends of Tomorrow are stuck dealing with things “The Chicago Way.” Vixen gets her turn at the opening voice-over. I still wonder how asking to be called Legends is better than being called a hero. As one of the characters commented during the big crossover, it sounds really egotistical to me.
