While there’s a lot of focus on one character, we see bits and pieces of a few other things of importance. I love that they are throwing in so many things for long term readers like me, but you don’t have to know them to follow the story.
Now there are loose ends to deal with after the events of last time, and yet more of poor Pat trying to ride herd on neophyte heroes who are lacking in everything except guts.
There’s some team training, an unexpected emotional outburst, bad cover stories, and some light shed on yet another secret of Blue Valley.
The team sort of gets together, we see just why the bad guys are so dangerous, and there’s a great scene where Courtney finally sort of connects with Pat on a real level.
It’s hard not to have tragedy when you open the series with an entire team of legendary heroes being slaughtered. But now, a new hero has risen, and Stargirl is continuing her ill-advised attempt to reform the Justice Society of America.
Last episode, Icicle, was amazing, hitting a great mix of comedy, action, tragedy, and introducing a villain who is actually menacing. Sadly, I think they hit a bump in the road with “Wildcat,” the next episode.
The newest DC/CW show, Stargirl, has been a lot of fun. While there’s absolutely a darkness in the backstory, most of the present has been fairly light and entertaining. I was impressed with the pilot episode of Stargirl, and they keep the same level of quality in the second episode. We get a bit more backstory, see more of the opposition, and learn a bit about some of this world’s history.
Stargirl, the newest show on both DC Universe and the CW, runs with the idea of legacy heroes.
