Gotham: Smile Like You Mean It

Things continue to get strange in Gotham, as seen on “Mad City: Smile Like You Mean It.” The episode draws on several different elements from various points in the Joker’s career, presumably to convince us that this Jerome is supposed to eventually be the Joker. His cult is a lot like the Jokerz gang as…

Gotham: Ghosts

After the government agents came back last week, it’s time for the city workers. Gotham returns from winter break with “Ghosts,” continuing their “Mad City” season. I’m really not wild about shows naming their seasons or even halves, as Agents of SHIELD is presently doing, but maybe that’s just me. At any rate, things are…

Gotham: Green-Eyed Monster review

Taking an early break, Gotham’s winter/mid-season finale (whichever term you like) is called “The Green-Eyed Monster.” A few of the plots rush towards their big cliffhanger, although I only found one of them to really have a lot of suspense in it. It was a pretty good episode… right up until the end.

Gotham: Mad City- Time Bomb

Gotham’s “Mad City” arc continues with “Time Bomb.” It does a very interesting job of weaving together several different plot threads, and setting up for some serious conflict later. And, while they’ve hinted at it before, we see some more of the dark, twisted, brilliance that will eventually make Edward Nygma one of Batman’s more intelligent foes (in the comics at least, I’m not sure any of that happens in this reality).

Gotham: Blood Rush

This week’s Gotham is called “Blood Rush,” which, given recent events, is a bit ominous. It was also the name of a weird semi-spinoff of Arrow that featured Felicity and Roy Harper, so I guess DC TV is reusing their titles. There are a lot of interesting twists and turns, and things are looking bad for one of our characters.

Gotham: Mad City: Red Queen

Jervis Tetch continues to wear out his welcome (much like the current Presidential election) in Gotham: Mad City: Red Queen. They are really stretching the coincidental Alice in Wonderland naming scheme here a few times. But they also did several pretty cool things this episode, so I can’t pick on them too much.

Gotham: Mad City: Follow The White Rabbit

Jervis Tetch continues to be a problem child for the people of Gotham in “Mad City: Follow the White Rabbit.” Personally, I find him annoying and keep hoping he’s about to go away, but I guess the writers like him. This week’s episode features him going to new lengths to avoid personal responsibility. While he hasn’t used the name yet, he’s living up the old “Mad as a hatter,” phrase. Although to use modern slang, he’s a hater, too.

Gotham: Anything For You

I’ve been commenting that all of the comic book based shows seem to have improved a lot this season. Well, this week Gotham joins those ranks with “Mad City: Anything For You.” There are a lot of twists and turns to the complex, scheming plot, and some good character moments as well. I think it was one of their better episodes, in my personal top few favorites of the series. Because there are so many intricate plot points, there are spoilers in this review. Be warned.

Gotham: New Day Rising

Gotham’s Mad City arc continues with “New Day Rising.” It’s more or less part two of last week’s Mad Hatter and Alice adventure. I have to admit, I’m not loving Jim Gordon as mercenary bounty hunter, but I think I see how they are going to end it and I’m thinking it might be soon. I hope so, anyway.

Gotham: Mad City- Burn the Witch

Gotham continues the new “Mad City” season with “Burn the Witch.” I’m sure this wasn’t at all what they intended, but that title keeps making me think of the old Monty Python sketch. That’s somehow fitting, considering how absurd things are getting in Gotham these days.
