Heroes Reborn: The Needs of the Many

“The Needs of the Many,” is the title of this week’s episode of Heroes Reborn. The different stories are starting to come together. While most of the characters still haven’t met, a lot of them are at least now in the same rough area. Renautas is the focal point of the bad guys as far as we have seen, and that’s where many of the characters are converging.

Heroes Reborn episode 3 review: “Under The Mask”

“Under the Mask,” opens with Malina, an Evo we know little about. She’s in the Arctic, using her powers to do something or other that effects the Northern Lights. She’s apparently trying to hold off something bad, and it’s getting harder for her to do it. Malina is accompanied by some kind of odd guide. There’s a lot of implied menace in this scene, but we don’t really know what’s going on.

Agents of SHIELD: Laws of Nature

Agents of SHIELD comes back for its new season with “Laws of Nature,” and it kicks off with a bang. The Terrigen contamination we saw last season is making itself known, and people are randomly finding their dormant Inhuman gene jumped into action. What quickly becomes apparent is that SHIELD isn’t the only group interested in these newly powered people.

50 Years of SHIELD: Cavalry Special

The latest in a series of one-shots celebrating the 50th anniversary of SHIELD, The Cavalry features Agent Melinda May, one of the most popular characters from the Agents of SHIELD tv show. While other characters have problems reconciling their Marvel Comics and Cinematic Universe versions, May was created for the tv show, so she doesn’t have a long backstory to try and tiptoe around. She’s an amazing badass who is a lot of fun to watch, either onscreen or on the page.

Heroes Reborn Two Hour Premier Special

I’ve been a fan of heroes, especially super-powered ones, for as long as I can remember. For whatever reason, the idea really resonates with me. So I was really excited when Heroes debuted back in 2006. I think the first season was absolutely amazing, with some brilliant ideas and executions. Even I will admit that it suffered badly when the writers’ strike screwed up season two, and it never quite recovered. But I still enjoyed it, even the less-good seasons. So I was excited when I heard it was coming back.

Red Sonja #18 review

This is Gail Simone’s last issue of Red Sonja, which is a shame. Then again, it’s issue eighteen of what was going to be a six issue run, so I can’t complain but so much. Sonja is defending the Spire, a tower that is something you don’t see in fantasy settings a lot- a library. Not much of a reader herself, in fact she’s borderline illiterate, Sonja has been won over by the dedication of the nuns who staff the library.

Legenderry Green Hornet #5 review

The two Hornets’ team up comes to an end in final issue of the mini-series. This issue came out some time ago, but I couldn’t get to it at the time. I’ve enjoyed all the Legenderry series, so I wanted to go back and make sure the finale got some attention.

Legenderry Red Sonja #5 review

This actually came out some time ago, but I had other commitments at the time. But, I really enjoyed this series and didn’t want to not review the final issue. The climax of the series shows Red on the island fortress of her foe, Dr. Frankenstein. Some of her allies fall, and some turn on…

Geek Travel: EMP Museum

Seattle has a lot of very cool things to see. One that isn’t as well known, or at least not as well known as it should be, is the EMP Museum, which some call the “Sci-Fi Museum.” It earns that name. I’ve traveled around a good bit, and I enjoy museums, but I’d never seen or heard of one before dedicated to science fiction. This was an amazing place to visit.

50 Years of SHIELD: Agent Carter Special

Celebrating 50 years of SHIELD, Marvel’s premier spy organization, they have released a series of one shot specials. The two before this were about Quake (Daisy/Skye on the Agents of SHIELD tv show), and Mockingbird/Barbara Morse. This one features Peggy Carter. Like most of the SHIELD-related comics over the last year or so, this tries to straddle the line between fitting the comics continuity but also not contradicting the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s an old saying about if you chase rabbits, you will catch neither.
