Gotham City has not been good for the Titans. Jason Todd returned here after his time on the team, got killed, came back, and is now the villainous Red Hood. The team came in the aftermath, and Hawk was killed, Dove leaving the team in grief.
The Titans have moved to Gotham, the Red Hood is on the loose, and Hawk is dead. The team has a lot of problems facing them, and for some reason or other, they split up to deal with them.
ason, like in the comics, came back to life (we still don’t know how), became the Red Hood, and began operating as a flat-out supervillain. Worse, a smart supervillain, trained by one of the world’s greatest tacticians, who knows the Titans inside and out. There’s a lot of trouble coming for the team…
Season two has created an entirely new status quo from that of the first season, and even that keeps shifting for the characters on Batwoman.
The second season of Batwoman has taken a hard look at several social justice issues. They have, in my opinion, managed to not do it in a preachy, club you over the head with platitudes manner (something Supergirl largely failed to do last season), but with some great writing and actual unflinching realism.
In a really big departure, Harley and her best friend Ivy are completely absent from this episode as we focus mostly on Batman, and a bit on the hapless Commissioner Gordon, as well as Batgirl and another new hero.
There’s a new status quo, such as it is, in Gotham, and Harley is absolutely not accepting it. Echoing the major No Man’s Land story from the Batman comics, Gotham has been given up on by the government and divided up by many of Batman’s major foes.
Season Two begins with “New Gotham,” which is an interesting little mess. As a quick recap: the Justice League is trapped in the Fairy Tale Realm, Joker is MIA possibly dead, Batman is missing, and Gotham is in ruins.
Later in the year, Marvel debuts it’s second movie with a female lead as we learn more (posthumously, sort of) about the Avenger Black Widow. DC will release a sequel to its smash hit Wonder Woman, with more adventures of the Amazonian Princess. But before we get to those, there’s a mixture of heroes and villains in Gotham City with Birds of Prey. Or Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. Or Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
With the movie coming out, a lot of people are interested in the Birds of Prey who might not be familiar with the original comic or characters. As is often the case, there’s a lot of difference between the movie and the comics. I’ll do my best to give a quick overview of both.
