After the chaos of the Deathstorm saga, and the emotionally charged funeral for Frost, you’d think Team Flash would be due for a break. Unfortunately, Central City is rarely a calm place. Rather than a big, overarching threat, the team spends most of the episode split up and dealing with different issues.
DC Comics is releasing comics based on the various shows in a miniseries called Earth Prime. We’ve seen Superman and Lois, Stargirl, Batwoman, and the Legends of Tomorrow. Now, it’s time to visit Central City and see some of Team Flash.
The Deathstorm saga ended with a few surprises. The ridiculously powerful villain was defeated, which was good, but there was a high price. Frost, formerly Killer Frost, formerly just a voice in Caitlin’s head, faced the supervillain, but died defeating him (it?).
It’s been a rough few episodes for Team Flash. They had a big disagreement amongst themselves on how to handle the apparent return of Ronnie Raymond, Caitlin’s husband and the original Firestorm, got a major shock when this being turned out to be Deathstorm, and everything they’ve tried against it has failed.
Team Flash has been dealing with the Black Flame, a new meta who is killing at will throughout the city. The team even split over how to handle it as they learned more, and it led to a rare disagreement between Caitlin and Barry.
Now they have a lot of decisions to make in their pursuit of this killer, and Iris and Sue have their own issues out in Coast City. There’s a rare amount of dissension and tension on the team as they deal with “Resurrection.”
we get a few new surprising discoveries in “Reckless.” That seems like more of a Legends title than a Flash one, but I get where it’s coming from.
They keep a lot of things in motion in “Phantoms,” and the episode title itself is a clue about one of the reveals. I have a theory about something below that might constitute a minor spoiler, but it’s just an informed guess on my part.
Powers and relationships dominate this episode, and while there’s some action, it takes a back seat to several other things. We see the return of an old foe, some complications on the various jobs, and the beginning of a new subplot in “The Fire Next Time.”
Every once in a while, they let the writers have fun on a particular episode of an ongoing series. I suspect the writers’ room for Flash had a blast with this one. There’s not as much action as usual this time out, but they have a lot of relationship developments and some great dialogue.
