Legends of Tomorrow: Raiders of the Lost Art

Joining the other shows, the Legends of Tomorrow return from their holiday break. The show opens by jumping back to the accident that opened the season. Rip runs around a badly damaged Waverider after having time-scattered the other Legends. He clearly has a desperate idea, and he even shuts Gideon down to do it,…

Flash: Borrowing Troubles From the F

Flash is the next of the hero shows back from the winter hiatus. The voiceover has changed, now focusing on the vision Barry had of the near future when Savitar kills Iris. In addition to giving Barry and company something new to worry about, it gives us the title, “Borrowing Problems From the Future.”…

Supergirl: Supergirl Lives

Back from winter break, Supergirl starts off with “Supergirl Lives!” I’m not sure why they called it that. Was this in doubt? Did someone think she was dead? Was the break that long? There wasn’t anything about her living or dying in this one. The show opens with Supergirl chasing a fleeing van which proves…

Constantine Returns!

After far too long, there’s some good news for Constantine fans. Many of us, myself definitely included, loved the show on NBC, which only lasted one season. Now the CW had announced an animated series on their “Seed” online network, much like the already extant Vixen. Matt Ryan was great on Constantine. After the cancellation, he did a single episode guest shot on Arrow, and then voiced the character in the Justice League Dark animated movie.

Legends of Tomorrow: The Chicago Way

Taking its turn in the winter finale line up, the Legends of Tomorrow are stuck dealing with things “The Chicago Way.” Vixen gets her turn at the opening voice-over. I still wonder how asking to be called Legends is better than being called a hero. As one of the characters commented during the big crossover, it sounds really egotistical to me.

Arrow: What We Leave Behind

Arrow gets their turn for a winter finale in “What We Leave Behind.” I found it to be an uneven episode. The main plot was really well done, very suspenseful, with some good scenes. The flashbacks have finally gotten to the joke people were telling when the show started, looping back now to the first year of Oliver’s career as the Hood/Starling City Vigilante. They also went way out of their way to beat the point into the ground about how the flashbacks connect to the present.

Flash: The Present

Flash returns from the big alien invasion/crossover for the winter finale episode, “The Present.” It’s a clever title, since this is their Christmas episode, where presents are sure to be found, and they’ve been dealing a lot with time travel, so it could also be the “this point in time” kind of present. They do…

Legends of Tomorrow: Invasion!

The big CW-crossover concludes on Legends of Tomorrow, which also shares the “Invasion” title. Their “previously on” scenes seem to be focusing hard on Flash’s changing time before. That’s interesting considering the Legends have made several changes this season, some deliberate and some by accident. Not to mentions Sara’s repeated attempts to assassinate Damian Darhk.

Arrow: Invasion!

The massive CW crossover continues with Arrow’s part of the “Invasion!” At the end of the Flash episode, we saw a good chunk of the Arrow cast beamed up by the Dominators. Now we get to find out what happened to them, along with a few scenes of what the others are up to. Well, most of them. As I commented about in my Flash review, Artemis is never seen, mentioned, referred to at all. Rory gets a passing scene, but no in-costume action.

Flash: Invasion!

While it sort of started on Supergirl, the big four-part crossover really kicks off on Flash. All the other shows share the title of “Invasion!” which was the title of the comic book event in the 90’s this story is loosely based on. For a big-time herogeek like me, it’s a lot of fun, especially as someone who’s been reading comics so long that I remember the initial story. It’s streamlined a lot, since the comic crossover went into every DC title running back then, and there were a LOT more heroes in the DCU of the 90’s than the DC CW-verse of the present.
