Agents of SHIELD: Frenemy of My Enemy

You know those comedies that have scenes with someone walking in on just the wrong part of a conversation, or seeing the very few moments of an otherwise innocent conversation that makes everything look bad? That was “Frenemy of my Enemy” on Agents of SHIELD this week. Only with a lot more serious problems coming out of it.

Agents of SHIELD: Melinda

In an annoying over-all trend on comic book shows of late, a good bit of this week’s episode of Agents of SHIELD is told in flashback. “Melinda” tells about how May earned her nickname of “the Cavalry.” The flashback is set seven years ago.

Agents of SHIELD: Afterlife

There’s a tradition of good SHIELD agents being on the run from bad elements in the organization. It’s happened in the comics a lot, especially with Fury. This was also a good bit of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That tradition continues here, as Coulson and Hunter are being pursued by Gonzales and his version of SHIELD in “Afterlife,” this week’s episode of Agents of SHIELD. Coulson and Hunter have a very entertaining scene with a used car salesman to open the episode.

Agents of SHIELD: One Door Closes

Apparently continuing the theme of all the hero shows this week, Agents of SHIELD has a lot of flashbacks in “One Door Closes.” They jump back and forth between the present and the day SHIELD fell, as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I admire how Marvel is keeping their shows and movies so tightly woven together, even as I puzzle over DC’s choice to do the opposite.

Agents of SHIELD: One of Us

There are secrets and plots all over the place in “One of Us,” which is appropriate enough for a show about super-spies. The Agents of SHIELD have more enemies than they know about, and are kept pretty damn busy chasing around this week. And they even work in a jaw-dropping surprise about Agent May’s background.

Agents of SHIELD: Who You Really Are

Agents of SHIELD is back from its winter break, and charging ahead with “Who You Really Are.” The episode does a few things. It ties in several things from the wider Marvel Universe, like the Kree and the Inhumans. It also fractures the team in some ugly ways.

Agents of SHIELD: Aftershocks

After a long break, a combination of winter hiatus and the run of the Agent Carter miniseries, Agents of SHIELD came back with “Aftershocks.” Leaping right into the midst of some new chaos, the show opens with a man who has skin grown over where his eyes should be.

The State of SuperHero TV

This seems like a good time to take stock in the various hero shows out there. Agent Carter finished her initial season with no real word on if the show will be back, ditto for Constantine. Flash is on another of those odd few week breaks with no explanation as is Arrow. Gotham is still driving ahead, and there are rumors of new projects all over.

Agent Carter Episodes 1 & 2 Review (Wayland’s Take)

ABC is filling in some of Agents of SHIELD winter hiatus with a limited series. Agent Carter, the titular character, was a supporting character in Captain America: The First Avenger with a few additional scenes in the Agents of SHIELD show. They reinforce the connection with a few flashback scenes from the movie, as Peggy remembers the last few minutes before Captain America’s crash. They showed the pilot and next episode back to back on the first night, The pilot, not originally, is called “Pilot,” and the next episode was “Bridge and Tunnel.” Oddly, the pilot in some places is also listed as “Now is Not the End.”
