The sixth season of Flash, much like season eight of Arrow, is pretty much straight buildup to the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover coming in December. The heroes have gotten hints about what’s coming, and Barry is trying to figure out what to do now that, as far as he can tell, his fate is sealed.
Last episode ended with a grisly discovery and a narrow escape for Jessica. Psycho-killer that he is, you have to grant Salinger is clever, and that was actually a fairly simple but effective deathtrap.
The new comic book style openings are really working for Black Lightning. They make the long, drawn-out titles make a lot more sense. The current story is grim, and there are a lot of things lined up against our heroes, but it’s still very well-done television.
There’s a strange darkness lurking in the swamps and woods outside Marias. It’s been hinted at by Swamp Thing and Madame Xanadu, and prepared for by the enigmatic Phantom Stranger, but we know very little about it.
Supergirl’s fifth season continues, and I’m really not enjoying the direction of pretty much anything. There’s bad writing, weird character choices, and the characters in general just seem to be getting sent in dark directions or mis-used in general.
Billy Russo is on the loose, building an army of criminally inclined, disaffected military veterans. The Schultz family is willing to do anything to keep their secrets and further their political reach and influence. Both of those groups are coming after Frank Castle, for different reasons. Anyone think going after Castle is a good idea?
Batwoman started strong, and I think it’s still doing well. They’re doing a good job of balancing the very important mystery of what happened to Batman/Bruce Wayne without making the show about it, or him.
“Legendary” and “iconic” are words that get tossed around a bit too easily and often these days, but sometimes they apply. In 1986, Alan Moore wrote a stunningly different comic book limited series called the Watchmen.
It can be argued the modern era of superhero television got its start with Smallville. That show to one side, the more direct start would have to be Arrow, which spawned the CW DC Universe, which is up to five shows now and hundreds of characters.
I’ve been enjoying this series for a few different reasons, from what I find to be decent writing to some interesting twists on the main characters to adding a few I never thought I’d see in live action (Blue Devil, Madame Xanadu).
