Batwoman has been one of the better CW shows for a while. First season was great, second was so much better than anticipated, and third has been pretty good. Which is why this particular episode is so disappointing.
The good news from last episode is that the time machine works. The bad news is it still has some bugs, and they don’t end up quite when or where they were aiming for.
The newest DC Comics based CW show is still in the midst of the origin story for the titular character, Naomi. We’ve learned a bit about some oddities in her life, and she’s digging into the mystery as she learns more.
There are attempts to reach out, some good decisions, and a at least one “I can’t believe he fell for that” moment in “The Ties that Bind.”
Although he seemingly died at the end of the movie, no one dies forever in comics, and that includes the comic book-based movies. Now Cena is back as Peacemaker in an 8 episode run on HBO Max, written and directed by James Gunn (Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy). The chaos starts off with “A Whole New Whirled.”
Flash’s eighth season starts off with “Armageddon,” a five part event with each episode guest starring a hero from elsewhere in this world of heroes. Part one sets up the new status quo, introduces a new villain and some updated older ones, and puts things into motion.
Now, they’re going in a different direction, with a show starring Naomi. Naomi is different from the other headliners in many ways. She’s a Black female, she’s not well known outside comics (or even inside them), and she’s a recent creation, first appearing in 2019.
Tyler Hoechlin has been a fantastic Superman and Clark Kent since he first turned up in season two of Supergirl. Elizabeth Tulloch, formerly on Grimm, debuted as Lois Lane during the Elseworlds crossover, and turned in a great performance of the famed reporter. The two make a very believable version of one of the world’s most famous couples, and their story through the first season may well be the best of the Arrowverse shows.
The second season of Batowoman has been dealing with two main storylines: the recapture of Batman’s stolen trophies, which are disturbingly creating a new wave of supervillains, and Ryan clashing with her birthmother, Jada Jet.
The Legends have found themselves marooned in 1925, and the first part of season seven has been dedicated to getting to New York City. They’ve learned of a scientist named Gwyn Davies who is the father of time travel, and they hope to use his genius to get themselves back to their own time.
