Legenderry: Green Hornet #2

gh2

Someone is setting the gangs of the big city against each other, and the Green Hornet is determined to find out who. He and Kato battle through a few various bizarre foes trying to get a lead. They do have a great interrogation method that makes use of their current Black Beauty, the airship. It’s a fun scene.

Eventually, they find some much more powerful thugs to fight as they close in on the mastermind. Hornet is perhaps a bit overconfident, and gets captured, forcing Kato to surrender. That’s one of the things I’ve always liked about Green Hornet and Kato, the hero/sidekick dynamic is reversed on many levels.

Anyway, in true old-fashioned villain style, our heroes are placed in a giant, elaborate death trap. As they are dealing with this, we see more of what’s going on behind the scenes. Pulling at least most of the strings is the Brass Hornet, apparently another evil version of the Green Hornet (there have been many over the years). Next issue we’ll get to see how the Hornet and Kato manage to escape.

Plot: It’s some good heroic fun with the nice little steampunk flourishes. I’ll give this a 3.5 out of 5 for plot.

Art: There are some great visuals. The steampunk look works a lot better than I’d have thought for the Hornet, and the settings are keeping pace. I’ll say 3 out of 5 for the art.

Positives: I’m a long time fan of the Green Hornet, and this is a great interpretation of him. The partnership between him and Kato is great, and I like their rhythm. I’m intrigued by some of the bad guys the Hornet has met yet.

Negatives: I liked the mysterious rich guy and his chauffeur from the first issue, and I was hoping to learn more about them, but they don’t show up. That’s really my only minus this issue.
