She Hulk #12 (Series Finale)

shehulk

This is the final issue of this run.  I’m going to be doing a separate piece later on why I think this series failed.  Because, by most standards, if you only make it twelve issues and that wasn’t the plan from the start, something went wrong.

Jen and her crew have been digging into the mysterious blue file case, a combination adventure/law suit that no one seems to remember clearly and that just mentioning can send people into a homicidal rage.  It’s a clever idea, and other circumstances might have done better.  Suffice to say they get it resolved here with some surprise help from one of the bad guys, and the reveal about what’s been going on was dramatic and surprising.

Plot: There were some good ideas here, some really original stuff.  I’ll give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Art: I’m sorry, I can’t get behind this artist. And, from what I’ve seen online and heard from folks at my local comic shop, I’m far from alone.  I’ll give the art a 1.5.

Positives: The story was resolved in a clever and unique way.  The series ended in a decent manner that could bring the cast back under different circumstances.

Negatives: The art.  Both the interiors and the cover just don’t look right.  On the cover, She-Hulk as a kid’s face.  Inside, she ranges from odd-looking to just plain ugly, and her fellow cast members don’t’ fare much better.

I enjoy She-Hulk as a rule but this run was disappointing.  I’m sorry to see her, but not it, go.

  1. ugh, the art style is… I don’t know – out of place? Is this comic about She-Hulk navigating the perils of her high school locker room? If not, this My Little Pony approach was a mistake
