Nightcrawler #12

The first thing I thought when I saw this cover was that it looked like a finale. The heroes and supporting characters all running forward, no villains, no reference to the current story– it all screamed last issue. I’m a lot more into the story side of things than the business/editorial side, so I’m guessing a lot of other people knew, but it was a surprise to me.

Moon Knight #13

Single issue stories are a sad rarity these days. It’s hard to find them. I presume that’s because the writers are so often pressed to pad their stories and write for the inevitable trade collection. So it’s a good surprise to find a nicely executed one. Then again, Cullen Bunn has impressed me every time…

Agents of SHIELD: One of Us

There are secrets and plots all over the place in “One of Us,” which is appropriate enough for a show about super-spies. The Agents of SHIELD have more enemies than they know about, and are kept pretty damn busy chasing around this week. And they even work in a jaw-dropping surprise about Agent May’s background.

Agents of SHIELD: Who You Really Are

Agents of SHIELD is back from its winter break, and charging ahead with “Who You Really Are.” The episode does a few things. It ties in several things from the wider Marvel Universe, like the Kree and the Inhumans. It also fractures the team in some ugly ways.

Thor #6

The mystery of the new Thor continues. The first few pages give us an origin for Dario Agger, the being that’s been a foe of the current Thor and the original over the past year or so. While he’s an interesting character, I keep feeling like they just tried too hard to get his name be D.Agger.

Star Wars #3

The new adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han keep going as they fight the Empire on Cymoon 1. The problem with attacking a weapons factory is there are a lot of weapons around. It makes for some interesting events for Han and Leia.

Princess Leia #1

Marvel recently started a new edition of Star Wars comics. Most likely, this was at least in part kicked off by the excitement (and some trepidation) about the new movies coming. I’ve been enjoying the main Star Wars title, so I thought I’d check this one out. After all, Luke and Han tend to get a lot more attention than Leia, and I wanted to see what they’d do.

Agents of SHIELD: Aftershocks

After a long break, a combination of winter hiatus and the run of the Agent Carter miniseries, Agents of SHIELD came back with “Aftershocks.” Leaping right into the midst of some new chaos, the show opens with a man who has skin grown over where his eyes should be.

Spider-Man 2099 #9

Peter David has written a lot of comics. He’s come up with some new characters that have really impressed me over time. I actually read and enjoyed his run on the Hulk, and that’s not a character I’ve ever cared for. The man is impressive.
