Things are coming to a head with the ASA’s occupation of Freeland. They’ve been thugs, throwing their weight around, acting like the worst examples of authoritarian figures I can think of. I don’t think they quite stooped to randomly shooting people in the streets, but they’ve done just about everything else wrong you can.
Black Lightning’s third season has been a grim one so far, with the ASA infesting the streets of Freeland like a conquering army. There are times I’m starting to wonder if Agent Odell is either completely making up, or at least greatly exaggerating, the Markovian threat. If it wasn’t for the one scene with them…
The new comic book style openings are really working for Black Lightning. They make the long, drawn-out titles make a lot more sense. The current story is grim, and there are a lot of things lined up against our heroes, but it’s still very well-done television.
It’s been quite a while since we saw the heroes of Freeland, and things haven’t been going well for pretty much anybody. There’s a very new and different status quo for our heroes, and the bad guys seem to be ahead on almost every front.
