The main character and his wife, among the few remaining characters from the first season, take most of this episode off, they bring back a minor character from the dead (thanks to more complications and ripples from Crisis), and there are a few inconsistences and just plain weird things happening throughout the show.

This episode was all over the road, with unexpected guest stars, subplots lurking around every corner, and a lot of surprises.
Flash has been really erratic this season. There have been some good episodes and some that left a bit to be desired. This particular one has some elements of both.
They keep a lot of things in motion in “Phantoms,” and the episode title itself is a clue about one of the reveals. I have a theory about something below that might constitute a minor spoiler, but it’s just an informed guess on my part.
It says something in the confidence a show has in their ensemble when the main character takes off for an episode and lets the various supporting characters take center stage. This has happened a few times on Flash now, and they pull it off pretty well.
This week’s Flash felt both padded and overly soap operatic, and not at all “Timeless.”
Life probably hasn’t been normal for Barry since he was a kid, and less so since he got his powers. Lately, it’s been even stranger, as the team clashed with Mirror Monarch and dealt with the aftermath.
Season seven’s premier seemed, to me at least, more like the season finale we didn’t get last time.
