Comic Book Classics Revisited: The Death of Superman Part 4

The Justice League has been defeated! Doomsday continues his destructive (and murderous?) rampage across the country! And now, it leaves only Superman to stop the monster! Welcome back to Comic Book Classics Revisited. Today, we are looking at The Death of Superman Part 4 (Adventures of Superman #487). Where we last left off, Superman was chasing after Doomsday after the monster destroyed the home of teenage jerk Mitch and his mother. With the Justice League down, Mitch cried out to Superman to come back and save him and his family from the fiery rubble of their home. Superman is caught between a rock and a hard place – stop Doomsday or save the family that were innocent bystanders of Doomsday’s rampage.

Comic Book Classics Revisited: The Death of Superman Part 3

Doomsday is here! Comic Book Classics Revisited is taking a deeper look at the 1992 blockbuster event The Death of Superman. Up to this point, a monster stronger than the entire might of the Justice League (minus Superman who was on TV at the time) is rampaging through the countryside and heading toward Metropolis. Now, in Superman (vol. 2) #74, the man of steel himself has entered the fray to stop this beast. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Knightfall – He Broke the Batman

As I stated in my introduction, “Knightfall” is the first story line that I will be discussing. To give some historical background, it was published from April 1993 to October 1993. Characters such as Bane and Jean-Paul Valley were introduced earlier, but reading those stories aren’t necessary to understanding “Knightfall.” However, I would recommend reading Vengeance of Bane because it introduces the character of Bane, giving the reader some insight into him and his background.

New Feature: Batman Comics Revisited

Today starts a new column where I read, discuss, review, and revisit the Batman-family canon of comic books. I should preface this by saying that it has recently become my personal reading project to reread the Batman comics canon, starting from “Knightfall” and ending, well, it will probably never end. I have many goals for this project, the first of which is to simply be entertained. That’s what comics are all about in the end. It’s entertainment.

Comic Book Classics Revisited: The Death of Superman Part 1

Hello and welcome to Comic Book Classics Revisited! We’re starting a new cycle today and this time, I decided to take a look back at The Death of Superman. Oh, I can already hear your groans as I type this. “Why waste time on a gimmick story?” you might ask. Or, you might say, “The story is so overblown and overhyped and overrated. You’re going to defend it?” Yes. Yes I am! But I’ll get more into this after we go through the first part of this monumental storyline – Superman: The Man of Steel #18!

Some Initial Thoughts on Batman #40 (spoilers)

After reading Batman #39 last month, I eagerly awaited this issue. In my personal comic book world, Batman is currently the one title that I am actually caught up on. My house is, figuratively speaking, filled with stacks of current runs that I have no idea when I’m going to get to. That being said, Batman has been more or less a treat for me every month, and I stayed up late (that would be 10:00PM for me) to read the conclusion of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s “Endgame” story line. Before I get into this, I must amend my statement about ‘eagerly awaiting’ the conclusion, because I cannot, in good conscience, say that I awaited the conclusion to “Endgame” as much as I had anticipated the ending of Snyder’s “Death of the Family” story line.
