Few days ago I wanted to check my IMDb account and while I was searching for a new movie to watch, I realized that I’ve seen every title in the top 250 list. And I think this was the moment that I accepted I’m a cinephile enough to argue with someone about the kings of cinema such as Alfred Hitchcock and Akira Kurosawa.
“Next movie you will watch might change your life.”

I don’t really know how many movies I’ve seen in my life. And honestly it is impossible to keep a record of that because I was watching films before I even learned how to speak. I mean my family was obsessed with cinema. My dad and my big brother have probably watched every Hollywood movie. And every evening after the dinner, you could see us while watching Nicholas Cage movies or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action masterpieces. Indeed, I remember the first time that I saw Men in Black on TV with my dad, and I just sat there and enjoyed my first sci-fi movie. This film was also probably one of the reasons why I became a comic book lover. Because after watching the movie, I decided to read the comic book that the film was adapted from. And everything started like that.
Look, just watching 250 movies doesn’t make you master anything. But this does not mean you don’t have enough knowledge about movies. It just shows you have good film culture. And I know someone who watched thousands of films but can’t even put two words together. But also I know someone who watched a few hundred films and wrote movie reviews for one of the biggest websites. So it is about what you get from those movies. Every film should be considered as a book and should be chosen correctly. Think like you are in a bookshop and care what you gonna choose next, because it is like buying a book and trust me you don’t wanna read a book that will not add value to your life. So give attention to this because the next movie you will watch might change your life.
Are IMDB ratings reliable?
Many films in IMDb top 250 list don’t deserve the ratings they have. And that’s why I don’t even care what IMDb says when it is about movies. But it’s not just IMDb, every other movie database platform’s ratings are unreliable, I think. I prefer to ask my friends or check articles of writers like James Poniewozik, Linda Holmes if I can’t decide that a movie is worth watching or not. But I’d like to just check the IMDb rating even if I don’t care. Because if I’m gonna write a review I think I should consider what society, what other people thinks about the movie before writing anything.
10 Great Movies Not In IMDb’s Top 250

If I try I can name you at least 100 good movies not in the list. And ratings of these films generally between 6 and 8. I don’t know what IMDb’s film critics how deciding these ratings. But in my case, I evaluate the movies based on the feelings they gave me in the end. Did I enjoy watching the movie? Yes. Then it is a good movie. And also yes, I know that film critics must consider all aspects of the movie. When I’m reviewing a movie I’m doing the same thing too. But just giving a number to movie and making a best movies list depending on the number you gave is just not exactly right thing for me. Of course it’s just my opinion.
So, here I’ll name you 10 movies you can watch without any hesitate. All of these movies are as good as The Prestige or Good Will Hunting. Feel free to ask me for more movie recommendations. And thank you for reading this article, you big-hearted beautiful person. I appreciate you for giving me a chance to explain myself with my silly words. I’ll see you in next post, may the force be with you.

I find the IMDB ratings to be low. For example, Pulp Fiction has a rating below 9.
