Legenderry: Vampirella 1

Last year, Dynamite Comics did a fun little limited series called Legenderry.  Dynamite is possibly best known for their licensed properties, and they brought many of them together in a steampunk setting.  Among the characters were Red Sonja, Phantom, Zorro, Green Hornet, the Six Million Dollar Man, Flash Gordon and Vampirella.

The series was so popular that several follow-up minis were scheduled.  This is the first of those.  The steampunk version of Vampy is back in her own series.  She’s back from the adventures in Legenderry, and things have not gone well in her absence.  Her club is closed, some mysterious citizens’ group is moving against her, and she’s being hunted by some other organization she’s not even sure of as to who they are or why they’re coming for her.

It’s a good start for mystery/adventure, and it’s done well.  I’m not familiar with most of the talent on this book, but I like what they’re doing.  I’ve never been a huge steampunk fan, but this is fun.  And really, what else do you need for a comic book?

Plot: This was a fun read, with good action and some nice twists.  I’ll give it a 3 out of 5 for the plot.

Art: Steampunk is a lot about the details and the dressing things up.  Cabrera does a great job of that here.  I’ll give the art a 4 out of 5.

Positives: Lots of fun, nice art, a good story to start off with, and ties to the last series but not so much that you need to have read the last one to get this one.

Negatives: Not a lot, really.  It didn’t stun me, which is why the rating isn’t higher, but I had fun with it.

I’m looking forward to the rest of this, and the others coming (Red Sonja and Green Hornet).
