With so many superheroes shows being cancelled, supposedly as a part of the big shakeups going on behind the scenes at DC Comics, it’s nice to see that some of them are still going strong. Superman and Lois, arguably a survivor of the Arrowverse (hey, that’s where these versions of the characters started) returns for a third season, and I’d say they’re off to a good start.
It’s been a rough season for Superman and Lois (and everyone else on the show, for that matter). Bizarro came by, Lois’ estranged sister has been causing problems, there’s a drug scandal, and Kyle’s affair over in the Cushing household. Steel was nearly killed and has been a long time recovering, and Ally Alston and General Anderson have teamed up, which isn’t good news for anyone, possibly on two different worlds. Several of these plots move forward in “Into Oblivion,” which managed to have an ending that surprised me.
I’ve been praising the quality of Superman and Lois each time I’ve written a review. That’s going to continue. The show manages to get in good special effects, plots that make sense, great characterization and acting, and working in family drama during an action show that doesn’t leave me rolling me eyes or wondering when they’ll get back to something interesting.
I hate to say it about a franchise I’ve been enjoying so much overall, but the Arrowverse has been very uneven this season. However, two shows really stand out: Batwoman, and Superman and Lois.
