Agents of SHIELD: Parting Shot

There’s a big change coming for the Agents of SHIELD in “Parting Shot.” There’s a lot of tense plotting, with cuts back and forth between now and several hours in the past. The number of hours ago each segment takes place gets smaller with each flashback, making a sort of countdown to “How did we get here?”

Squadron Supreme #5

The Squadron, made up of survivors from different Earths before the forcible integration that is the current Marvel Universe, has had a lot of trouble on the main Marvel Earth. In a bad spot on Earth, they were offered an escape route by Thundra, who wanted to get their help in the horribly named Weirdworld. Once there, the Squadron suffered a lot of immediate setbacks, such as the apparent death of Dr. Spectrum and Hyperion losing his powers.

Jessica Jones 8 AKA You’re A Winner

Episode six of Jessica Jones, “AKA You’re A Winner!” starts off with another Kilgrave scene. His casual, thoughtless evil is really chilling. He uses his powers to win a high stakes poker game, and then deals with the player who gives him attitude about it in an offhand but vicious way.

Agents of SHIELD: The Inside Man

Things get complicated for the Agents of SHIELD in “The Inside Man.” Quite a bit of the show involves the creature that was exiled to Maveth, which is now inhabiting Ward. Malik isn’t sure what to make of what he got, and the creature doesn’t really seem to care what Malik thinks.

Thor #5

Tension has been building for a while now, and things finally go over the edge in this issue of Thor. Thor has had enough of Odin, and the two of them fight. And “fight” isn’t anywhere near a strong enough term. I think they did some damage out Jupiter way, but Aaron did something amazingly…

Agents of SHIELD: Bounce Back

After a long mid-season break, and the run of season two of Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD finally returns. After the surprises at the end of the showdown with Hydra, the team has to see if they can “Bounce Back.” They scored some victories, but took some losses, but the Terrigen-mutated Inhumans don’t care as more of them manifest.

Agent Carter: Hollywood Ending

Aptly titled, the second season of Agent Carter ends with “Hollywood Ending.” Of course, that ends up working on more than one level as we await word about Season Three, which seems like it’s not coming until May. They manage to work in a few good surprises this episode.

Agent Carter: A Little Song and Dance

Episode Nine of Agent Carter is amusingly and accurately called, “A Little Song and Dance.” The Netflix Jessica Jones series was the first one to bring sex into the Marvel Universe. Now, Agent Carter has brought in musical theater in a really entertaining number. I’m not sure why they decided to go that route, but it’s a fun scene, and the timing is decent since the movie “Hail, Caesar,” has some similar numbers and just recently came out.

Agent Carter: Edge of Mystery

Agent Carter’s troubles in California continue in “The Edge of Mystery.” This is one of the more serious episodes, and a lot happens. There were some interesting twists along the way, most of which caught me by surprise. I thought it was a good episode. Rumors about cancellation are still in the air for the show, but there is no confirmation that I can find anywhere. If it does get cancelled, it would be the first failure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if you can apply that term to something that lasted for two seasons.

Agent Carter: Monsters

After the chaos of last episode, Agent Carter and friends now have to deal with “Monsters.” Whitney Frost, drawing on her acting skills, has a press conference about the death of her husband, and his “colleagues,” the Council members she killed with her Zero Matter powers. Carter and Frost glare at each other across the reporters before Frost retreats into “mourning.”
