Jessica Jones Episode 13: AKA Smile

Jessica Jones’ first season goes out with a bang in “AKA Smile.” Everything comes together beautifully, if a bit tragically, but that seems to be the norm for Miss Jones. There were several surprises that I didn’t see coming, and a few things I hoped for didn’t happen… but I’m getting ahead.

Jessica Jones Episode 12: Take A Bloody Number

The end of Jessica Jones’ first season is almost here. Episode 12 is “AKA Take A Bloody Number,” and shows events building to a head. Several parts of the series that have been separate so far collide in this episode, at times violently. The writers do a great job of balancing the various superpowers with very human reactions.

Jessica Jones Episode 11: AKA I’ve Got The Blues

Jessica Jones starts building towards the finale with episode eleven out of thirteen, “AKA I’ve Got The Blues.” They cut back and forth between the present time and the early days of Jessica being taken in by the Walkers. From the hints we’ve had about Mrs. Walker, it’s no surprise that it wasn’t an idyllic time.

Jessica Jones Episode 10: AKA 1,000 Cuts

“AKA 10,000 Cuts” is the tenth episode of Jessica Jones’ Netflix series, and it is one of the most tension-filled, violent, and hard on the cast shows they’ve done yet. A lot of things go badly here, and very little of it is Jessica’s fault, although I have no doubt she’ll blame herself. That’s what she does.

X-Men Apocalypse review

X-Men: Apocalypse could in some ways be called X-Men: Remix. A lot of characters we’ve seen before get reintroduced since the timeline was reset in Days of Future Past. Conveniently, this let them recast younger actors for almost every role. There’s also a very odd mix of keeping some character’s backgrounds, or at least pieces of them, but wholly disregarding others.

Star Wars #21 review

I’ve heard it said many times that no one is the villain in their own story. Stormtroopers in the Star Wars Universe are generally generic bad guys, even something of a joke. “Shooting like a stormtrooper” is something I’ve heard geeks say when someone fires a lot of shots and hits nothing. This issue, Jason Aaron does his best to dispel all that.

Steve Rogers: Captain America 2

The big shock at the end of the first issue of this book did just what Marvel wanted: it generated a lot of controversy and got people talking. At times, I think a lot of the comics industry really goes in for the “Any publicity is good publicity” idea. I was among those saying this sudden new spin on Steve Rogers made absolutely no sense and was some kind of cheap ploy to gain attention and interest.

Steve Rogers Captain America 1

Ok, you’ve probably heard about this one already. I did, too. I tried to let the rumors go until I read it for myself. Now that I have… I really don’t like it, and I don’t buy it. There are going to be spoilers here. Know that going in.
