The DNX prologue kicks off to a magnetic start. Within it, the original Beast, now the Chairman of 3K, tries to convince Magneto to join his side. He wants Magneto to return to his old ways and his iconic philosophy of fanning a war between humans and mutantkind.

In addition to seeing him as an asset, Hank also covets the alliance because he saw that Magneto’s specific genetic code holds the key to launching the future X-Virus that eliminates humans.
Magneto refuses, even when Beast offers to return his powers. His life outlook has severely changed from what it once was. In issue 17, he stated he still believes violence is necessary. But, the Master of Magnetism now believes violence needs an absolutely good reason, and the erasure of humankind is no longer suitable as one. He describes Chairman McCoy’s mission as “madness”.
Throughout the issue, you also get Magneto’s latest 3K clone–also named Joseph–fighting the Alaskan X-Men. And through both Beast and Cyclops’ statements during their respective segments, it’s realized that as much as they learned from Xavier, they also learned considerably from Magneto. Fighting techniques, philosophies, certain ways to operate in life and certain ways to look at mutantkind were among the many topics the X-Men took in from their long-standing foe. So much so that Cyclops has incorporated some of it despite being on the side of good, and that Beast, once an X-Man, has become a parallel to Magneto.
In the end, Beast snaps and harms Magneto, extracting the genetic code himself. Magneto’s helmet falls during the attack, a symbolism of the loss in his status without his powers being what they once were. Cyclops declares that they will stop Beast, and refuses to let the X-Virus run rampant. He refuses to let a deadly future become a near reality.
