The current run of Moon Knight has had a lot more to do with the god Khonshu who resurrected Marc Spector, than many past volumes. I always sort of liked the uncertain approach, when you were never quite sure if Spector was given some kind of divine assistance, or if he was just both ferociously driven and possibly a bit crazy.
Agent Carter’s miniseries is almost over, and “SNAFU” raised the stakes a lot. It was a very tense, well-written episode, and managed to rise above many of the problems I’ve been having with the series. It was also a brutal episode on a few fronts.
Woo! After a real close call last time, what with that crazy bolt of destruction coming out of nowhere when I was rapping up Secret Wars #11, I was able to dust off the old laptop and bring to you the final installment of the first Comic Book Classics Revisited! Let’s dive right in, shall we?
The new status quo is slowly being established in Thor. The God of Thunder has made his peace with the new wielder of his hammer, even though he’s still trying to figure out who she is. Unfortunately, Odin is trying to work it out, too, and he’s nowhere near as forgiving. In fact, he’s pretty damn pissed off about her having Mjolnir.
“A Sin To Err,” is the title of the latest Agent Carter episode, as the series builds towards its finale. The Stark plot seems to have been mostly dropped by the writers, and even the cast, barring obsessive agent Jack Thompson. Now, the focus is on Leviathan, the mysterious organization that is lurking behind the scenes in Russia.
Continuing from last issue, our heroes are trying to shut down a major Imperial weapons factory on Cymoon 1. Naturally, nothing is ever simple for Luke, Han, Leia and company. They have been split up and found more than enough problems to keep everyone busy and then some. Malfunctioning Walkers are bad enough, but when a certain Sith Lord comes calling, you know it’s not going to make anything better.
I do give them credit for some clever titles on Agent Carter. “The Iron Ceiling” as an episode manages to both give a fair amount of background on Dottie, Carter’s new neighbor, and tie in to Black Widow’s past. The title itself is a play on the infamous Iron Curtain, as well as the glass ceiling that, to this day, plagues so many women. There are a lot of interesting surprises here, and they finally let Peggy get some credit at the SSR, which is a nice change.
The war has ended! The Beyonder is destroyed! Everyone is safe… Thanks to Doom?!? Yes, folks, Doctor Doom is large and in charge as the end of Secret Wars is just a breath away!
