OK, you win, MCU – I’m officially excited to see Spider-Man: Homecoming.
It’s looking more and more like we’re going to get a coming of age Spider-Man movie that all leads up to whether or not Peter Parker can fulfill his responsibilities as a superhero AND have a normal life. As in, take his dream girl to homecoming. Right? That’s what it looks like.
And I couldn’t be happier.
I also like the idea of Tony Stark as a wise old mentor and the idea that Peter has to learn how to be Spider-Man on his own. Peter seems to want a father figure and to belong to a family (The Avengers), but Tony has enough experience to know that Peter needs to learn to be his own man first and not live in Iron Man’s shadow. Even (and maybe especially) if that’s what he wants.
So, we’ve only had two trailers, but man is there a lot to unpack – and look forward to! I never thought that would happen – after FIVE Spider-Man movies that I didn’t exactly love, I never thought I’d be excited to see a web head movie, but here we are.
