It’s been an interesting few weeks for the live action versions of various comics characters. Rather than do several small articles, I’m just going to do a round up of some of the big points here.
Punisher: After the success of Daredevil’s second season, Netflix has announced a Punisher series. There are rumors that the Punisher may turn up in the Defenders. There are also rumors that the Netflix characters may pop up in cameos during Avengers: Infinity War, but I’m not sure I buy that. It already sounds like a crowded movie.
DC Loses Directors: Following the largely negative reviews of Batman vs. Superman, there were various shockwaves among the projects coming up. It has been confirmed that Seth Grahame-Smith has left the Flash movie. There are rumors that James Wan has walked away from the Aquaman movie, but this hasn’t been confirmed. Personally, I still think that making the DC movies and tv shows separate is a bad choice, but that’s me.
Inhumans: Rumors abound that the Inhumans movie has been cancelled. There are even more rumors as to why this may be so. While this has not been confirmed, what is true is that the movie no longer has an official release date.

I’m starting to feel like the Netflix universe is getting too big. I just saw the ad for the Luke Cage series and I understand we’re getting Powerfist, too? If they add Punisher, that’s 5, plus whatever they’re doing on network TV (they’re adding a Mockingbird show?)… I just can’t keep up with this much content. I still have one episode of Daredevil season 2 to watch!
I read somewhere that the Inhumans movie isn’t cancelled, just that they’re pushing the date (back? forward?) to accommodate their bigger properties, like the new solo Spider-Man movie, Guardians of the Galaxy sequel and even a Dr. Strange sequel…

IRON FIST was one of the 4 originally announced solo series, then Defenders, so that’s nothing new. Punisher as a fifth is their first expansion, and a sign the shows are doing well. On network, Agents of SHIELD has a second spin-off, “Marvel’s Most Wanted,” led by the Hunter and Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird characters. Agent Carter’s future is still in doubt. I did say above the Inhumans cancellation was a rumor, one of several, but a movie going from definite release date to “maybe sometime” has historically never been a good sign.
Think about what you said up there, that you can’t keep up with the content. When I was growing up, anything superhero related was rare. I think this is a wonderful change

I certainly agree that it’s nice how much superhero content there is now, but by the same token, the market is flooded and I worry about quality being sacrificed so the big companies can strike while the iron is still hot. But so far, so good.
