Star Trek Beyond trailer – reaction & analysis

“We are horrified by the off camera mystery!”

The new Star Trek franchise is back – is this a good or bad thing?

I’ve been calling this movie Star Trek Beyond JJ Abrams, and I’m starting to wonder just how accurate my joke really may turn out to be.  I mean, seriously; there’s a motorcycle in a Star Trek movie.  That’s a real thing now.

I guess that’s what happens when you hire the director of Fast and Furious.  (Not to be confused with The Fast and the Furious).

But what really jumps out at me is this seems to be a movie that doesn’t do much Star Trekking.  It looks like they’re going to be on the mystery planet for the duration, so I guess whatever space battle we’ll see near the open of the film is all we’re going to get in terms of the USS Enterprise flying around and kicking ass.  That’s a disappointment for me right there…

My gut reactions aside, there’s really not enough information to get an idea of exactly what we’re dealing with here, but at the very least, all the key elements are in place and I keep reading that William Shatner is in the flick, so that’ll be interesting if nothing else.  For now, I’m betting low on Star Trek Beyond, but will hope for the best.

  1. I too am hoping that the trailer is just all the action parts of the movie shoved together and that’s not all there is. I like the first two movies and I love TOS. First movie put the crew together under strange circumstances and the second, I though Cumberbatch made a good villain and showed a greater array of emotions between the characters. This movie trailer shows lots of action, and not much of a story line. I pray that I’m wrong.
